Youth Theatre

TwoCan Youth Theatre

TwoCan’s Youth Theatre meet every Monday evenings from 6pm-7.30pm at the Performing Arts Centre, University of Gloucestershire Oxstalls Lane, Gloucester GL2 9HW. We currently have over 30 regular members who split in to two working groups supported by theatre professionals. The group is open to all young people aged from 11-25 years old with or without a disability. The ten-week term is subsidised by the University of Gloucestershire, The Ian McKellen Bursary Fund in association with The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham and the Yapp Charitable Trust and costs £40.

Each session encourages confidence building and the development of aspirations to engage with the arts. The group plans and creates their own work and finds public platforms to showcase what they have produced.

In the past the group have worked with a deaf performance artist and performed a signed song at the Gloucester Tree of Light event, they have written their own mystery and worked with a Bollywood dancer and magician to support some of the elements of interest and even some Ariel work to help them explore A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In May each year the group perform their own creations at the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts and this year were the winners of the Open Theme Class with their performance titled ‘Turning the tables’.

As well as weekly sessions, TwoCan works with Active Impact ‘Of Course We Can’ to provide holiday programmes at Easter and Summer. Young people meet every day for a week to create their own performance which they showcase for friends and family on the last day. The Easter programme next year will take place from Tuesday 19th – Saturday 23rd April and the summer programme will be from Monday 22nd – Friday 26th August 2022.

We welcome any new members who would like to get involved. If you think you may be interested in our weekly sessions, holiday programmes or may not fit into the groups age criteria please contact Louise Partridge on 07941 218520 or email louise@twocantheatre.org.uk for further details.
